Holiday Feasting Scares Me!

I am a bit nervous about the upcoming holidays. I love the time with my family, friends and especially the food. The food is what is making me shake a bit. I am a sucker for a good pumpkin pie, I am pretty sure I have never met one I didn’t like. My mom makes a killer coconut custard pie as well. Dad’s homemade bread with a bit of mom’s homemade apple butter makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Ya, this is going to be tough!

I am on a flight right now, headed up to my sister’s for Turkey Day. Fortunately my sister always offers some healthier options. But I know the tempting tasty treats will still be abundant. I need to take this pre-arrival time and set the game plan into motion for operation control the pounds over the holidays 2010. I need to limit the portions, and space out the snacks and opt for the healthier choices. (most of the time ;)

I am going to try to take the following into consideration over the next few days:

  • Eating smaller portions
  • Eating a bit slower and enjoying every bite
  • Taking a break when that first “sigh” hits me. There will be plenty of left overs and a chance to eat a bit more when I am ready. (though with my brother there, that is not always the case, the good stuff has a habit of disappearing pretty quick!)
  • Eat the lower calorie, lower fat stuff first
  • Try to control the intake of the adult beverages
  • and squeeze in a few workouts
I know it is important to be realistic. It is also important to enjoy life, the family and food without being an obnoxious burden and annoyance to everyone else. A little of the good stuff isn’t going to kill me.

On a positive note, while my sister and her family were visiting me last year. I got them hooked on Insanity! They have both crushed the program with amazing results and have a nice little workout spot set up in the basement. It is totally cool and acceptable to skip out for an hour for a good sweat pouring workout in.

I do not have the gear to keep up with the P90X program. My plan is to fit in a few Insanity or Turbo Fire routines, and then repeat week 6 of P90X when I get home.

While doing a bit of research on tips to control the waistline over the holidays, I came across a couple websites I thought I would share.

Both had some good pointers and ideas to help keep things under control.

Have a happy holiday everyone!
